Kids Care Instructor

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.†The Kids Care Instructor will be responsible for engaging in and implementing all programs and activities on a daily basis in the Kids Care Room. Kids Care Staff will guide the development of children, ensuring a safe, enriching, and healthy environment using materials and resources in the Kids Care Room. It is the philosophy of YMCA Kids Care program that our staff is to provide a safe and fun environment for children while parents are involved in YMCA activities. At the same time, the Kids Care instructors will engage with children to allow them the opportunity to develop physically, socially, emotionally, and cognitively within the context of caring relationships with the adults in the program. Kids Care Instructors will provide a quality experience to children and parents that focus on the Y values: Honesty, Respect, Responsibility, Caring and Faith.

  1. Follows procedures for the day-to-day operations of the Kids Care Room, meeting all applicable state regulations (if any) and YMCA policies.
  2. Engages in a program that is developmentally appropriate, meeting the physical, social, emotional and intellectual needs of the participants.
  3. Provides careful, attentive supervision and is alert at all times.
  4. Uses the program resources responsibly to enrich the experiences for all participants. These materials are multicultural, nonsexist and anti-bias.
  5. Participates with children in opportunities to use their large muscles, with consideration for each childís physical and developmental capabilities.
  6. Supports a program that adheres to YMCA healthy and safety standards (and local and state standards that apply) and exhibits high standards in cleanliness and presentation.
  7. Encourages an environment that invites exploration, promotes positive play, and welcomes children.
  8. Promotes a team concept through a positive approach to communication and interactions with others. Maintains on-going communication with supervisor and parents.
  9. Upholds the associationís children protection policies, child abuse and neglect guidelines and proper reporting procedures.
  10. Communicates regularly with program parents. Attends parent/family events as designated by supervisor.
  11. Demonstrates a working knowledge of the Y mission, values, purpose and goals. Strives for the highest standards of program excellence.†


  1. Must be 18 years of age or older
  2. Must have High School Diploma or GED Certificate
  3. CPR, First Aid and Certification upon hire
  4. Must possess and demonstrate ability to engage in all activities associate with the daily care and routines of program children, including but not limited to: interacting with children at floor level, physical education activities such as running, jumping, etc. lifting children and equipment, and participating in outdoor activities, diapering and toileting as needed.
  5. Must posses oral, auditory and written communication skills appropriate for interacting with both children and adults.†Must be capable of communicating concerns and needs to parents and the Program Coordinator to ensure a positive experience for the children, parents and staff in the Kids Care room at all times
  6. Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position; walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting.
  7. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10lbs. and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25lbs.† Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.


  • Part Time Hourly; up to 25 hours per two weeks.
  • Monday -†5pm-8pm
  • Tuesday - 5pm-8pm
  • Friday - 5pm-8pm, 8pm-10pm
  • Saturday - 9am-2pm
  • Sunday 9am-2pm
