Personal Trainer

Department: Health & Wellness
Location: Rockford, IL


The Personal Trainer will be responsible for guiding members through effective exercise programs. Personal Trainers provide professional and educated one-on-one or small group training service to members and develops fitness routines that will satisfy member goals. Responsible for building a strong network of relationships with members, growing and maintaining client base for personal training, and designing, implementing and leading specialty programs as needed.

1.    Provides energizing, fun, safe, and educational wellness counseling as directed, to accomplish the YMCA mission and goals.
2.    Answers questions from members to support them in achieving their goals related to healthy living.
3.    Effectively provide instruction on usage of fitness equipment and emphasis safety and proper technique. 
4.    Understand the components and principles of fitness and be able to discuss them with members in layman’s terms.
5.    Builds effective, authentic relationships with members; helps members connect with each other and the YMCA.
6.    Consistently follow up with all members you train by monitoring their attendance in program.
7.    Attend staff meeting and training to stay current with latest fitness trends and educational information.
8.    Keeps accurate records of clients.
9.    Follows YMCA policies and procedures; responds to emergency situations.
10. Regularly check all equipment to ensure proper maintenance and cleanliness. 
11. Proactively market to members to secure new personal training sessions. 


  1. Nationally recognized Personal Training Certification required (AFAA, ACE, NETA, ACSM, NASM)
  2. Minimum High school diploma or general education degree (GED) 
  3. Excellent knowledge in the area of Health and Wellness 
  4. CPR, First Aid & AED certifications upon hire
  5. At least one year of training clients is preferred
