Wellness Coach (SwedishAmerican Riverfront YMCA)

At the Y, we purposefully engage members throughout their health and wellness journeys. The wellness center is one of many ways the Y helps support members to achieve their health and wellness goals. Under the guidance and supervision of the Healthy Living Director, the Wellness Coach will be responsible for guiding members through the YMCA Wellness Experience program, ActivTrax, and Adult & Youth machine orientations. The goal of the program is to assist members in making healthy lifestyle change and to build self-esteem.  The role of the coach is to assist members through this process by providing personalized attention, support, and motivation.  The coach will provide safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that promotes member wellness and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.

1.    Provides energizing, fun, safe, and educational wellness counseling, as directed by the supervisor, to accomplish the YMCA mission and goals.
2.    Answers questions from members to support them in achieving their goals related to healthy living.
3.    Effectively provide instruction on usage of fitness equipment and emphasis safety and proper technique. 
4.    Understand the components and principles of fitness and be able to discuss them with members in layman’s terms.
5.    Builds effective, authentic relationships with members; helps members connect with each other and the YMCA.
6.    Consistently follow up with all members you train by monitoring their attendance in program.
7.    Follow the YMCA Wellness Experience guidelines. 
8.    Attend staff meeting and training to stay current with latest fitness trends and educational information.
9.    Keeps accurate records of participants.
10. Follows YMCA policies and procedures; responds to emergency situations.
11. When unable to work scheduled hours, staff is responsible for obtaining substitute from current staff list and notify supervisor of arrangements.
12. Regularly check all equipment to ensure proper maintenance and cleanliness.
13. Maintains and cleans equipment in accordance with the schedule or as directed 


1.    High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
2.    Excellent knowledge in the area of Health and Wellness
3.    Certification in areas of expertise preferred
4.    CPR & First Aid Certification, Bloodborne Pathogens and Child Abuse Prevention training upon hire
5.    Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position; walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting.
6.    The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10lbs. and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25lbs.
