Health & Safety Instructor - CPR & First Aid

Location: Rockford, IL

POSITION SUMMARY
The Health & Safety Instructor will teach CPR, First Aid, AED and Oxygen training under the American Safety & Health Institute (ASHI) curriculum. The Instructor is responsible for facilitating video presentations, instructor lectures, skills demonstrations, testing students, answering questions and completing post-course rosters and paperwork. The Instructor will help to promote a culture of safety throughout the association. This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. This position will be expected to support all branches.

WORK LOCATION
Regardless of primary assignment, this position may be required to travel between sites as needed.

  • You'll support the commitment of the YMCA to child abuse prevention by:
  • Report any items that may provide a health or safety hazard to staff, members or guests to your supervisor.
  • Follow all policies and procedures related to keeping children safe in our facilities and programs, including those related to the monitoring and supervision of children.
  • Report any suspicious behavior and violation of policy and procedures to your supervisor.
  • Complete all child abuse prevention training as required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Achieve and maintain all necessary certifications and licenses required to teach assigned courses.
  2. Teaches ASHI courses within current certifications to staff, volunteers and community. Must arrive to teaching site a minimum 30 minutes before class is to begin.
  3. Maintains, manages and stores all assigned equipment. Responsible for re-ordering all necessary equipment as needed with support of the Human Resource designee. At conclusion of class, cleans equipment according to established decontamination guidelines, reporting any maintenance issues to Human Resource designee, and returns equipment to prescribed location.
  4. Applies quality-assurance and control programs. Ensures that proper safety measures are in place to protect participates in the training activities.
  5. Responsible for effective and efficient use of resources.
  6. Communicates regularly with applicable team contacts regarding course updates, changes to product/services and availability to teach. Submits training activity and course related records in compliance with ASHI guidelines.
  7. Uses their YMCA email, issued upon hire, for all YMCA of Rock River Valley correspondence.
  8. Ensures YMCA building and property is secure and report incidents and hazardous conditions to supervisor.
  9. Ensures a strong focus on character development and diversity, equity and inclusion throughout programming.
  10. Reports damaged equipment or safety hazards promptly.
  11. Performs any other functions necessary for the smooth and efficient operation of the YMCA of Rock River Valley.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • One year of related experience preferred. Related experience includes education, adult training or service industry.
  • Current certification to be an instructor in discipline desired; training and certification provided to qualified candidates after hire.
  • Once certified must maintain applicable level course certifications.
  • Basic computer skills and demonstrated ability to utilize Microsoft Office, Google Suite products and other applicable software applications required.
  • Experience in using audio-visual technology for education delivery.
  • Strong presentation skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills are required. Ability to communicate course material in a clear and understandable manner.
  • Ability to teach effectively in an adult learning environment.
  • CPR, AED and First Aid Certifications required within 90 days.
  • Praesidium Academy trainings.
  • YMCA Leader certification preferred.
  • Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations.
  • Proven track record of developing authentic and deepened relationships with others.

2 Positions

Part-Time, Non-Exempt
10 - 15 hours per month
$15.00 per hour
