AmeriCorps Members

Department: Teen Programming
Location: Loves Park, IL


The Rockford Service Corps utilizes AmeriCorps members to address educational and wellness needs in under-served populations/neighborhoods of the greater Rockford area. Through partnerships between the Rockford community, the YMCA, Northwest Community Center and other services organizations, Rockford Service Corps seeks to improve the lives of Rockford residents.

AmeriCorps members are responsible for improving the well being of at-risk and under-served youth and teens; help to minimize the achievement gap in school performance between students of various income levels; and develop positive programming through partnerships. Members will be assigned a service area and are expected to perform the duties listed below. Visit for additional information about the AmeriCorps program.

Teen Leadership Centers

  • Recruitment of teens by visiting area middle/high schools and community events
  • Organizing and leading teens through various group activities, including tutoring, life skills and active games
  • Mentoring and supporting teens through their time at the Teen Center

Impact 505

  • Lead monthly orientations to enroll participants in programming
  • Plan and implement weekly events and monthly special events at YMCA and community facilities
  • Assists in seeking volunteer opportunities for Impact 505 participants
  • Helps foster relationships with other community partners

Volunteer Management

  • Assist in recruitment of volunteers for YMCA programs to grow volunteer base
  • Plans volunteer opportunities

After School STEM Enrichment

  • Design and implement enrichment activities for youth enrolled in the YMCA's after school programs
  • Implement STEM curriculum in afterschool programs
  • Administer surveys to aid in tracking growth of students


  • Recruitment of high school students by participating in various community events and regular visits to high schools
  • Assist in program curriculum development and implementation
  • Assist in weekly program delivery by facilitating workshops, icebreakers and activities
  • Assists in planning of special events, spring break college tour, etc.
  • Helps secure speakers to present on career options for student participants

Job Requirements & Qualifications

  • Minimum age 18
  • Experience working with youth and diverse populations
  • Have obtained or working towards GED/High School diploma
  • Ability to work flexible part-time schedule; 18-20 hours per week
  • Able to honor a minimum of 1-year commitment to the program
  • Must successfully clear background checks

Program Benefits

  • Stipend of $375 monthly
  • Education award of $3047.50 - $6095.00 after successful completion of service term and hours
