Early Childhood Assistant Teacher

SUMMARY

At the Y, we engage early childhood age children in age appropriate curriculum. Our educators meet high quality standards and lead little learners on a journey of self-discovery. Assistant Teachers will work under the direct supervision of the Lead Classroom Teacher. Assistants shall be able to demonstrate skill and competence necessary to contribute to each child’s physical, intellectual, personal, emotional, and social development. These skills include:

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

2.     Cooperation with the purposes and services of the program

5.     Physical and mental health that do not interfere with child care responsibilities
6.     Good personal hygiene
7.     Frequent interaction with children
8.     Listening skills, availability and responsiveness to children
9.     Sensitivity to children’s socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic and religious backgrounds, and individual needs and capabilities
10.  Use of positive discipline and guidance techniques
11.  Ability to provide an environment in which children can feel comfortable, relaxed, happy and involved in play, recreation and other activities 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have high school diploma or GED
  • Previous child care experience required
  • Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions of position and to safely supervise children’s activities.

Upon hire:

  • Medical Release form CFS 602 filled out by physician
  • Must submit to a DCFS background check (Form CFS 718-B)
  • A minimum of 3 written references
  • Register with Gateways to Opportunity
  • Participate in a minimum of 15 clock hours of in-service training per calendar year
  • Complete Mandated Reporter Training, as well as training on Sudden Infant Death Syndrome and Shaken Baby Syndrome within the first 30 days of employment
  • Certification in Pediatric CPR/First Aid Training Preferred
  • ExcelleRate Illinois Early Childhood Credential Level 1 or higher
SCHEDULE
Regular Part Time Hourly
Weekday Afternoons; 12:30pm-6:00pm
 
COMPENSATION
$10.00-$12.50/hour; Depending upon experience & qualifications
