Aqua Zumba Instructor

The Aqua Zumba Instructor leads group classes in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that promotes member wellness and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.

1.    Leads energizing, fun, safe, and educational group classes to accomplish the YMCA mission and goals.
2.    Answers questions from members to support them in achieving their goals related to healthy living. Maintains working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members.
3.    Builds effective, authentic relationships with members; helps members connect with each other and the YMCA.
4.    Keeps accurate class attendance records.
5.    Follows YMCA policies and procedures; responds to emergency situations.
6.    Attend staff meeting and training to stay current with latest fitness trends and educational information.
7.    Instruct 90% of classes.
8.    When unable to work, instructors are responsible for obtaining their substitutes from the current staff list and notify supervisor of arrangements.
9.    Create a noncompetitive atmosphere. 
10. Assess each class to determine their ability to follow your instructions.  Adjust the workout to the various skill levels of class participants.  Offer exercise modifications frequently.
11. Change music and movements frequently.  Seek to make each class that will keep members “coming back”. 


  1. Required certifications: CPR/AED, and First Aid (provided by the Y)
  2. Minimum 18 years or older
  3. Ability to conduct aqua classes and activities comfortably (Ex. Aqua Pilates, Joyful Joints, Aqua Zumba)
  4. Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position; including leading class, walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting
  5. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10lbs. and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25lbs.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
