Executive Director (Dixon Family YMCA)

YOUR IMPACT
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Oversees the total operation of Dixon Family YMCA, including membership, marketing, programs, facilities, volunteer and staff development, financial development, community relations and collaborations with community agencies. Community engagement and staff development are key areas of focus for the position with an emphasis on facility safety, staff management, and YMCA Service Standards.

EXPECTATIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

The YMCA seeks to provide a flexible, results-oriented work environment. As such, executives enjoy the potential to work remotely. To support the branches, programs, and people they serve, executives will be asked to spend a majority of their time on-site observing, supporting and leading.

Leadership & Staff Development

  1. Recruit, hire and evaluate staff and volunteers.
  2. Supervise and support staff, fostering professional growth and team success.
  3. Oversee staffing, training, scheduling, payroll, and programming in compliance with YMCA and regulatory standards.
  4. Maintain and update Staff Handbooks.
  5. Address employee questions and concerns, including performance, promptly.
  6. Ensure staff are trained in emergency protocols, risk management, and child abuse prevention.
  7. Keep records of staff certifications, training, meetings, and audits.
  8. Leads individual and team meetings with direct reports, quarterly cabinet meetings and one annual branch meeting.
  9. Fosters a culture of open communication, mutual respect, and innovation, leveraging engagement from stakeholders at all levels to enhance decision-making and problem-solving across the association.

Operations & Program Management

  1. Fosters a climate of innovation to develop member and participant-focused programs, which support the Y mission, goals, and strategies to boost program participation and membership.
  2. Develops and directs high quality relationship-based member engagement strategies. Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions with staff, volunteers, members, and the community.
  3. Implement quality control measures to ensure program excellence, effective marketing, seamless enrollment, and outcome reporting.
  4. Ensure ongoing compliance with health and safety regulations.
  5. Develop and oversee a robust system of data collection and data analysis that will be used to drive performance in all areas of operation. This includes, but is not limited to, membership and program reporting, payroll, budget, operating plans. The senior leader will use this information track and respond to data.
  6. Together with department directors, collaborates with the marketing department to effectively market and promote all membership and programmatic opportunities. Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations and third-party vendors.

Facilities & Safety

  1. Collaborates with department directors to ensure all equipment repairs and hazards are reported promptly.
  2. Regularly inspect facilities to ensure safety and cleanliness by maintaining high-quality facilities, grounds, and equipment.
  3. Manage chemical maintenance and safety of aquatic facilities.
  4. Respond to emergencies per YMCA protocols and submit related reports.

Budget & Administration

  1. Develops, manages, and monitors operating budget and meet or exceeds budget targets.
  2. Directs the financial development activities through strategic planning efforts and the development of the annual operating plan.
  3. Strategic thinking, planning experience, and exceptional time management abilities. Capable of managing various tasks concurrently and meeting challenging timelines. Achieves key deliverables in the areas of fiscal management, fund development, staff development, volunteer development, and quality results as explained in the vital signs documents.

Member & Community Engagement

  1. Build a culture that supports YMCA service standards.
  2. Promote inclusion, character development, and equity in all programs.
  3. Address member concerns promptly.
  4. Provides leadership and support to the annual fundraising campaign and volunteer committees/ boards as assigned to meet annual campaign and capital campaign goals.
  5. Represents and promotes the YMCA in the local community and develops positive working relationships with other organizations, businesses, and governmental entities. Develops, maintains, and models collaborative relationships with community agencies in service delivery area.
  6. In partnership with Chief Service Officer, support and develop strong board relationships and outcomes.

Collaboration & Communication

  1. Participate in strategic planning and explore opportunities for growth and innovation.
  2. Attend, and offer, when necessary, professional development.
  3. Discern when to elevate communication related to supervisor for support to discuss progress, challenges and opportunities.
  4. Directs marketing and communication efforts to effectively communicate benefit to the community.
  5. Execute trades of service, service, Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs), and rental agreements while effectively managing and nurturing key stakeholder relationships support association goals and initiatives.
  6. Represents YMCA of Rock River Valley in the regional, state, and national YMCA movement through relationships, programs, and events.

General Duties

  1. Ensure proper facility opening, closing and security.
  2. Serves as a member of YMCA Executive Leadership team and supports the overall objectives of the YMCA.
  3. Ensure a strong focus on character development and diversity, equity and inclusion throughout programming.
  4. Reports damaged equipment or safety hazards promptly.
  5. Performs any other functions necessary for smooth and efficient operation.

SCHEDULE & COMPENSATION: 1 Position

1 Position: Dixon Family YMCA
Full-Time, Exempt
$65,000 - $75,000 per year based on experience and qualifications

FUNDING SOURCE

This position is funded by an active management agreement between YMCA of Rock River Valley and Dixon Family YMCA.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • YMCA Multi-team/Branch Leader Certification, preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in human services, social services, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience preferred.
  • Six or more years of management experience, ideally within a YMCA or nonprofit organization, with a focus on youth development or educational programming.
  • Proven success in managing budgets and fiscal resources of $2M or greater, securing funding, and managing resources.
  • Knowledge and experience in all aspects of operations, including staff supervision and development, membership growth practices, program development and implementation, volunteerism, facility and property management, and financial practices.
  • Ability to direct total operations through volunteer development, supervision of staff, development and monitoring of branch budget, marketing and public relations, and program development.
  • Ability to analyze data and make informed decisions that drive program success and adapt to changing community needs.
  • Experience in management and development of volunteer involvement; ability to recruit top community leaders.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations.
  • Leadership qualities that inspire collaboration, innovation, and a shared commitment to the YMCA’s mission and values.
  • Passion for YMCA mission, with a commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment.
  • CPR, AED, First Aid, and Handle with Care Certifications required within 90 days of hire.
  • Praesidium Academy training.
  • Proven track record of developing authentic relationships with others.
