School-Age Van Driver

YOUR IMPACT
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The After-School Van Driver provides safe transportation to and from program sites while maintaining all required passenger ratios for after school programming.

WHAT YOUR DAY MAY LOOK LIKE

No two days at the Y look exactly the same — and that’s part of what makes this role so important. You’ll play a key part in safely connecting our community to YMCA programs.

  • Complete safety checks, documenting mileage and gas levels, and making sure the vehicle is clean and ready for passengers.
  • Safely transport participants to and from YMCA programs while following all YMCA policies, passenger guidelines, and state driving laws.
  • Review and reinforce van safety expectations so every passenger understands the rules and enjoys a safe, comfortable ride.
  • Build positive relationships with staff, volunteers, and participants while communicating with your supervisor to support daily transportation needs.
  • Maintain accurate records of trips, fuel, and vehicle condition, and report any safety concerns or maintenance needs.
  • Assist with supply runs and support YMCA programs as needed to help operations run smoothly.

Your role helps ensure YMCA participants arrive safely to programs that strengthen community, connection, and well-being.

Positions 1: Good Shepherd YMCA and SwedishAmerican Riverfront YMCA

Part-Time, Non-Exempt
Monday - Friday availability 1:45 - 7:30 pm
Shift times may vary
$15.00 per hour

FUNDING SOURCE

ISBE, 100%, 10/7/25 - 6/30/26, Non-Renewable

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum age of 21
  • Minimum one-year work experience as a driver preferred
  • Hold a valid driver’s license in good standing with your current state of residence
  • Possess a current Class D driver’s license
  • Must maintain a history of a clean driving record. Motor vehicle records will be checked every two years as a condition of employment
  • Motor vehicle records must meet and remain acceptable according to the MVR eligibility criteria
  • Desire and ability to work with children
  • Current Praesidium Academy training
  • CPR, AED and First Aid Certifications required within 90 days
